Disklens aims to streamline the daily routine of finding information on your Mac by combining Apple’s proven Spotlight search technology with a convenient user interface. Disklens delivers up to 30,000 search results, grouping them into categories such as Documents, Messages, Applications, etc. Results are presented in a summarized list that flies out from the menu bar.
Important information like creation date, last modification date, or containing folder is immediately accessible by means of a fly-out window that moves along with the mouse. Tapping the Space bar on a search result will open an inline QuickLook preview window. An aspect that sets it apart from Apple’s own Spotlight search utility is the ability to drill down into specific result categories. In drill-down, an exhaustive list of results within a certain category is presented, sorted in reverse chronological order, and grouped by month for better visual orientation.
